Active Adult Classes
These classes are offered at the Jamerson YMCA

Cross Training Lite
This class is designed for the active older adult. A
certified instructor will lead the class in low impact aerobic movements designed to strengthen your heart and lungs, stimulate your coordination and balance, and help build strong muscles and bones. All classes will conclude with strength-work, abdominal/lower back exercises, balance and stretching/relaxation.

Chair Exercise
This class is designed for older adults with limited mobility, heart or respiratory challenges, or for members getting back into exercise. This class will get you moving in the CHAIR! This class will focus on cardiovascular fitness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and posture. Mostly everything we do will be in the seated position, except for some exercises that will use the chair for balance. You will have fun; meet lots of great people and GET FIT!

Active Plus (AP) Muscle
A resistance training workout utilizing the CHAIR, weights, tubing, and body bars. This class is geared toward the active older adult and is a great way to increase your bone density.

 

A.M. Yoga
A perfect way to start your morning with breath and movement. This classis a more gentle approach to yoga compared to power yoga. Each posture will have several modifications for the participant to choose which pose is appropriate for them. This class allows your mind and body to awaken gently by using Yoga to build energy
and clarity for the day ahead.


Gentle Yoga
A modified Yoga practice that utilizes the chair for many of the postures. This is a great class for those members that are unable to get down onto the floor. Focus on the breath and movement is still emphasized. Balance and Flexibility will be greatly improved by participating in this practice.


Other Classes
Other main-stream group fitness classes that could be considered by the active older adult are: Core, Flexible Strength, Muscle, Iron Grip Muscle, Cycle, and Stott Pilates. Depending on your fitness level, you are welcome to try any class on our group fitness schedule.
